This is what I do.
Having problems with your computer? Everyone does. Really. It could be something small and nagging, like Word not showing the correct default template. It could be something noisy, like a bad fan or a hard drive acting up, making your computer sound like an old jalopy. Or, it could be something quite scary, like a virus infection or malicious spyware following your every online move.
The good news is that no matter what the problem is, it's curable. So calm down. You came to the right place; I'm here to help.
CATALYST Techworks is a small business consultancy catering to small businesses. I am an IT professional concerned with the plight of the home office worker and the small businesses in the area that cannot afford a full-time IT staff. I know Windows. I know Macs. I know Linux and many other *NIX-derived OS. I know hardware. I know workstations, I know servers. I know video game consoles and PDAs. Most importantly, I know what breaks, what works with what else, and how to bring it all together and get it working right.
Not only do I possess extensive knowledge of, and experience in, all of these areas of information technology, I know how to help small businesses get their minds wrapped around them. I'll happily teach what I know if you're willing to listen and learn. It makes my company different.
This is why I do it.
I'm a big geek. Computer geek, car geek, music geek, home improvement geek. But I really know computers, so I started this company to build and maintain what I love. I also know that, despite knowing many things, I don't know it all; I am a general "practictioner". But I certainly can try; I am constantly pushing myself to learn new techniques, find new fields of study, specialize in new areas of expertise. I can't sleep at night unless all the problems on my plate have been solved.
At the end of the day, I like to think I made someone happy. If I walk away from a customer site and can see a smile on someone's face, I know I did what was necessary to help bring order to a chaotic universe.
